Position : Epidemiologist/Malaria Consultant

AFENET seeks to recruit an Epidemiologist/Malaria Consultant based in Juba to provide Technical assistance to ensure that the Global Fund supported C-19 RM resources allocated to strengthen Malaria service delivery are being effectively implemented and monitored.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The epidemiologist/Malaria consultant will provide technical assistance to MOH, WHO and UNICEF to:

  • Strengthen the South Sudan Covid-19 Malaria mitigation activities
  • Develop future pandemic preparedness and response (PPR) capacity
  • Mitigate the knock-on effects of Covid-19 on Malaria
  • Technical assistance will be aligned to the approved Global Fund C19RM funds and activities for Malaria program response
  • Support South Sudan FETP Malaria control activities
  • More specifically the consultant will support GF supported malaria mitigation/adaption in:
  • Highest priority areas facing the greatest challenges from COVID-19 effects and disruptions, supporting new innovations (e.g., community based testing and treatment, integrated COVID-19 / malaria services) now possible due to COVID effects
  • Assessment, development and implementation of key interventions targeting areas that have been severely impacted by the direct and indirect effect of COVID-19
  • Mitigation measures that build on existing platforms (e.g., bi-directional and simultaneous disease/infection testing, infectious disease surveillance networks,) for greater efficiencies of integrated approaches

Required profile for job ad : Epidemiologist/Malaria Consultant

Position Qualification:

  • Masters or Doctoral-level professional degree in academic fields related to health or allied sciences, preferably in human medicine, Public Health, veterinary medicine nursing & laboratory science.
  • Graduate from a Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) in Africa is an added advantage

Experience and Skills:

  • Over 5-10 years of experience working in the field as a practicing epidemiologist
  • Over 5 year experience in Malaria programmatic work
  • Experience in providing Malaria Technical assistance to MOHs and multilateral agencies
  • Experience in Public health project implementation
  • Knowledge of COVID-19 situation in South Sudan
  • Demonstrated proficiency in distillation, interpretation, and verification of unstructured scientific and popular data.

Required qualities:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple partners and teams at national and sub national levels.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, collaborative and good listening

  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Openness to new ideas and willingness to accept different opinions
